PostSubject: JKS's Photo Thread - Modelling/Landscape Shots *New Pics Inside*   Tue Dec 11, 2012 1:40 pm

Hey there, everyone.

I'm very new to the Sims 3 modelling scene and I really could use some pointers on what I may be lacking skills-wise. I've looked at guides and they've been helpful, but they don't pinpoint on what I am not very good at (whether it's editing, scenery, poses etc.)

So if anyone sees this thread and fancies offering me some advice, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Some quick info before I begin:

~ I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M with 2GB video memory.
~ All my game settings are on high/very high - I also have animation smoothing, edge smoothing and advanced rendering on.
~ I use GIMP to edit my photos.
~ My current skills with GIMP are using brightness/contrast, sharpening images and poor attemps at cutting out sims.

Here's some example modelling shots I've used for competitions on the Sims 3 forums:

And a bad attempt at cutting out my sim for an avatar:

Thank you, Bliss. It was probably my favourite assignment in that competition I was in. :D

Thank you.

I can find camera angles fairly well, it's just anything more difficult that throws me off.

Hello, again!

Firstly, thanks to everyone who gave me compliments on my photos last time. :D I really appreciate the feedback. However, I'm looking for more advice, please! One thing is specific, the other is a general question.

Here's some screenshots of my latest modelling contest entries. The first set are from the modelling competition on here called "Posh Princess":

My questions here: is the lighting too bright? I can't seem to find a good tutorial on just lighting. In all these photos I used the buydebug lights, a ceiling light and floor lights. I always try to "spotlight" my model so he/she stands out from the rest, is that the right sort of thing to do? I don't know.

A shot from "Sibiling Rivalries" on the official forums:

Murder Mystery/Cluedo themed party with my models dressed as the Cluedo board game characters.

In all the competitions I've entered, I've never managed to get above 3rd place. I am often up against stiff competition and amazing entries from other simmers, so I was wondering if anyone could see what I'm lacking or whether there's anything I could be doing differently to boost my scores that little bit higher.

Thanks in advance for any help, guys!

I love it. Being in black & white makes it look mysterious.

Thank you, Drama. Glad you like it. :D My model is representing the UK, so I had to do red, white and blue in her swimwear.

Thank you for all the wonderful comments, everyone. :D

I haven't uploaded anything in a while, so here's a shot of my latest edit, took me 10 hours in total (can you tell I'm a newbie? XD)
