They're good for first attempts! You've got great shading on the hairs, and I quite like the texture.
Like you said, I think you need to work on the shape some more. It currently looks a little blocky, so you should some flyaway strands to make it look like real hair.
Also add a few more strands on the hair, as the ones you have at the moment aren't very noticable.
Hope that helps

I think starling is right, But I would sugges that you apply your hair in layers just to give the overlapping appearance and it looks as if your hair is not 2d. you should be able to see strands of hair that look as if they underneath the top layer etc. While I think you have the dodge and burn marks in the main correct places, You should probably apply it a lil more in other places.
I start with the darker clolor as the base and apply the lighter strands of hair above it.
I actually dont use the dodge and burn tool for hair , I just adjust my color palette when drawing the strands.
(Im not a huge fan of the shiney plastic look)

I'm not an expert but I'd say more visible strands, as a few others have said.

I'm really bad at hair drawing but you need to work on the shape. I usually use references for my hair drawings and you can easily find hairstyles over google or in a hair magazine

Nice! When I draw hair these are the basic steps i go through
1. Create a shape (I'm not very good at creating shapes so I google images and take e.g a celebritys hair to create the shape after - I trace the lines on my tablet)
2. When the shape is created, I take a hair brush created by Harry - you can get it here [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ( scroll down) and just stroke hair texture onto the shape
3. I pick a lighter color and repeat step 2 and then an even lighter color and so on.
4. To add depth I pick quite a dark color and add it to places to create shadow and depth.
5. To add highlights I take quite a light color and apply it to where i think it's necessary. Then I take the smudge tool and smudge the color so that it would look good. If it came out too light, just adjust the opacity level.
6. To make the hair even more realistic take a very small brush and just add strands.

It's much better than the first one you did and it looks more realistic.
Next time add shadows/highlights to your hair. I'm not good at explaining how they work, but you can see hair tutorials which explains how highlights/shadows work.
