Glossy Text Effect Empty Glossy Text Effect

Thu Aug 25, 2011 3:14 pm
Ever wondered how simmers sometimes have these awesome glossy effects to their logos? Wanna know how to do it too?

*This tutorial SHOULD work for GIMP as well as PS ;)

Firstly you need to open up your chosen editing program, start a new page or a new layer.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Then you need to type in your word/logo/phrase and you can color it however you like

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Now this is really important, after typing in your word, make a new layer and use the rectangle tool and draw a white rectangle on that layer.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

make sure it is placed correctly on top of your writing

*you can also experiment with different shapes to give you a different effect

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Now you hold ctrl and select the image of your logo layer as circled in red below

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

it should form a selection like so

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

You then click on the layer that has the white rectangle and you invert selection or crtl+shift+I.
Press delete and your image should then look like so.

Now all you have to do is lower the opacity of the rectangle to a suitable color for your 'glossy effect' try not to make it too white, because then it won't look glossy, just two toned!

Hope this helps!
