Changing Eye Color Empty Changing Eye Color

Are those eye colors driving you crazy? Want to change it up a bit? This is the tutorial for you!

WHAT WE'LL END UP WITH:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Headshot
  • GIMP
  • Know how to use Pen Tool

1. GET A HEADSHOT OF YOUR MODEL
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
**feel free to use this image to practice on**

The bigger the picture the better, because you can see the eyes more.

For right now we're using a pic I had of one of my best models, Keyo. You can see her eyes perfectly clear.

2.DECIDE ON YOUR COLOR

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I want to go for something really different, so I'm using pink (If you want mulit-colored eyes, pick those colors out too)

3. SELECT THE EYE

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Zoom in really close on the eye.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Using the pen tool, make a path that is the same size as the eye (this is the area that will be colored)

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Now go into your Paths window (see above) and click on the red square at the bottom. Your path is now a selection around the eye.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

**keep the selection around the eye**

4. DESATURATING (optional)

Go into Colors > Desaturate and pick which shade suits you best.

**desaturating makes the new color pop more, so this step is optional. If you do not want to desaturate, go to the next step**

**keep the selection around the eye**

5. ADDING COLOR

Create a new layer.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Fill your selection with the new color.

Now, above the Opacity in your Layers box, there is something that says Mode. Right now it should say Normal Mode, but we want to change that. Click on the grey box with an arrow and a whole lot of choices pop out.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

You want to select one of the bottom four: Hue, Saturation, Color or Value.
If Hue doesn't look good, then select Saturation and so forth.

If you've done good, it should look like this:

Zoom out and enjoy your handiwork! :D

PROBLEMS

... If the color is too bright.... then just change the opacity of the new layer.

... If the eye goes all weird when you merge the layers... Sorry bout that. It's kind of a side-effect to changing the layer Mode. Just don't merge them together, and when you save the image it'll just merge it for you without making it wonky. Save it as a .png just to be sure ;)

I know, but sometimes I'll take a pic and not like the color, and so instead of going back in and re-doing the pic I just do this :P
